Now Russell returns with a film he says is about "a wild world of crazy characters" set in the 70's and 80's. It is centred on a con man and his partner in crime who are forced to work with a federal agent to turn the tables on other con artists, gangsters and crooked politicians. However, on the look at this first very entertaining trailer, the order of the day seems to be the character's various hairstyles, really giving flavour to the time period. There are perms, comb overs, hair piled high. I particularly took to the tight little curls displayed on Bradley Cooper's head.
The director (who also co-wrote the script) has assembled a stellar cast including Christian Bale and Amy Adams (from 'The Fighter'), Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence and Robert De Niro (from 'Silver Playbook Linings'), Jeremy Renner and one of my favourite stand up comedians, the brilliantly inventive Louis C.K., in what I believe may be his first feature film appearence. The promise delivered in the trailer combined with the usual high quality calibre of Russell's work translate to my expectations being high on this one.
