The Ohio State University has a marching band that has earned a pretty
hefty nickname "The Best Damn Band In The Land". They came close to staking that
claim last weekend with an impressive performance displayed at the half time
show against the University of Iowa. In honour of the 25th anniversary of the
release of Michael Jackson's iconic 'Bad' album (actually hitting that landmark
last year), the marching band presented an 8 minute tribute to the King of
Pop.

While playing in formation, the band
played a medley of Michael's hits, not just from 'Bad', including 'Billie Jean',
however the stand out moment of the show happens around 4 mins 40 seconds in
when incredibly the group not only form an image of Michael Jackson (with the
trademark white glove no less), but actually moonwalk across the playing
field! It simply has to be seen to be believed. I am in no doubt wherever
Michael Jackson is, if he could see this stunning spectacle, he would be
smiling. You have to check this out.

'muhammad ali's greatest fight' shows his toughest battle

The illustrious and iconic 3 time World Heavyweight Boxing Champion Muhammad Ali engaged in many battles during his long and distinguished career, several having gone down in history as some of the most monumental and savage clashes ever seen in the sport. However the man who still remains the most famous living sportsman on the planet, arguably took on his greatest challenge and foe nowhere near the vicinity of a boxing ring. Instead his arena would be a court room and his enemy was the United States of America. A new film has been produced by the US cable network HBO called 'Muhammad Ali's Greatest Fight' which seeks to highlight the story behind the headlines which not only at the time gripped the attention of America and the world,  but also robbed the champion of his world title and (more significantly) 4 of his 'prime time' years as an athlete.

Aged just 22, Cassius Clay brought about one of the biggest upsets the professional boxing world had ever seen when in 1964 he beat Sonny Liston and became the world heavyweight champion. Shortly after he joined the Nation Of Islam and changed his name to Muhammad Ali. As early as 1965 Ali voiced his opinion of disapproval of the war being waged in Vietnam by America. In 1967, while still undefeated and being totally unafraid to tell the American white establishment its own shortcomings in terms of treatment of people of colour, Ali received notification he would be drafted into the US Army for active duty. He cited his own religious beliefs along with his oppostion of the war and refused to be conscripted. These actions led to his arrest and he was charged and found guilty of draft evasion. Almost immediately he was stripped of his boxing title and subsequently given a jail sentence of 5 years and a fine of $10,000. Ali lodged an appeal which would takes several years to resolve.
